season include performing the entire cycle of 32 piano sonatas by Beethoven from memory in Portland , OR and San Francisco , CA .
This season, he will perform the “Goldberg Variations” all over the West

Pianist
Eldred Marshall to Conclude His Beethoven Cycle
San Bernardino, CA.“ On
December 8, 2007, Eldred Marshall will become the first African-American to join the ranks of master pianists who have
publicly performed the entire series of the 32 Beethoven piano sonatas from memory. Pianists who have pulled
off this rarely-performed feat include Schnabel, Backhaus, Arrau, Kempff, Barenboim and Brendel.
The concert will take place
December 8 at the Portland Community Music Center, located at 3350 SE Francis Street at 8pm. This is the eighth concert
in a series of 8 recitals surveying the complete piano sonatas of Beethoven. Marshall will perform Sonatas 28, 30, 31
and 32.
"I shudder at the thought of being on any list that includes those pianists," says Marshall. "I
certainly did not embark on this cycle with that in mind--nor with possibly becoming the first Black to pull off this
feat. I performed this cycle because I love Beethoven and this cycle is an artistic, intellectual and musical challenge
that would take everything I've got plus more to complete. I am happy that the past seven concerts have gone well, the
series has community support, the audience is enthusiastic, and I look forward to a fantastic ending on December
8."
Admission is free, but $20 is the
suggested donation. Contact the Portland Music Center at (503) 823-3177 for more information.
Following this concert, he
will initiate his five-month Beethoven series in San Francisco in January, 2008, while continuing his concert schedule throughout
the West Coast. His schedule can be found on his website, www.eldredmarshall.net. ________________________________________________________________________________
